Charly Turns 10: More Than Just a Logo

Today is a special day for us. Charly, our chameleon and the face of our C platform, turns 10.

At first glance, Charly might seem like a simple mascot. A friendly figure that appears across our products and communications. But for those who have worked with our solutions over the years, it quickly becomes clear that Charly represents something much deeper.

He stands for how we think about software, about change, and about the way technology should adapt to the people who use it.

How “C” became Charly

Interestingly, Charly’s story did not begin with a mascot at all.

When the new C platform was first introduced, the idea was to give it a name that reflected where technology was heading. “Cloud” seemed like the obvious choice. Today, that would hardly raise an eyebrow.

But at the time, the reaction was different.

Questions around data security, control, and transparency dominated the discussion. Many users were skeptical about the idea of moving data beyond their own systems. The concept was ahead of its time, and the name created more uncertainty than clarity.

So the solution was simple. The platform was shortened to just one letter.

“C”.

The name stayed. And over time, it gained meaning of its own.

Why a chameleon?

With the name in place, the question became how to visualize what the platform actually stands for.

The answer came from nature.

A chameleon adapts to its environment. It does not force change, but adjusts to what is already there. This is exactly the principle behind the C platform.

It integrates into existing system landscapes, adapts to individual processes, and supports a wide range of use cases without forcing rigid structures. Whether in on-premises environments, private clouds, or complex IT ecosystems, the platform fits into what already exists.

In some cultures, the chameleon is also seen as a symbol of time, with the ability to look in different directions at once. Past, present, and future come together in a single perspective.

That idea translates surprisingly well into the way our platform handles data. Information is not only stored, but contextualized, connected, and made usable across time. At the same time, every piece of data is anchored along a timeline, making changes transparent and ensuring that developments remain traceable at any point.

And that is how Charly came to life.

A constant in a changing environment

Over the past ten years, a lot has changed. Technologies have evolved, expectations have grown, and the complexity of managing buildings, assets, and data has increased significantly. Topics like artificial intelligence, data integration, and digital twins have moved from vision to reality.

Through all of this, Charly has remained a constant.

Not because nothing changes, but because the underlying idea still holds true. Software should not dictate how organizations work. It should adapt to them.

This principle is just as relevant today as it was ten years ago.

Looking ahead

Charly’s tenth birthday is a good moment to look back. But it is also a reminder to look forward.

The challenges are not getting smaller. Data volumes continue to grow, systems become more interconnected, and expectations for transparency and efficiency increase. At the same time, new technologies open up possibilities that were hard to imagine just a few years ago.

Charly will continue to evolve alongside these developments. Not as a static symbol, but as a representation of flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to navigate complexity.

Happy Birthday, Charly

Ten years of Charly means ten years of ideas, development, and continuous change.

And if the past decade is any indication, the next one will be just as dynamic.

Happy Birthday, Charly.
